Haihao Group Supplies ASME B16.9 A234 WPB Pipe Fittings to South Korea

Haihao Group recently completed a shipment of A234 WPB fittings for a customer in South Korea, covering elbows, tees and concentric reducers for industrial piping applications. The order was manufactured to ASME B16.9 and included Schedule 40 fittings in sizes from 2″ to 6″.

The package was not limited to standard product supply. The customer also specified sandblasting and magnetic particle testing, requiring the fittings to meet both dimensional and inspection requirements before shipment.

A Complete Range of Schedule 40 Fittings

The South Korean order includes 90° long-radius elbows, a 90° short-radius elbow, a 45° long-radius elbow, equal tees, a reducing tee and concentric reducers.

All products are manufactured from ASTM A234 WPB material and specified to ASME B16.9. The consistent use of Schedule 40 across the order also makes material identification and project coordination more straightforward.

ASTM A234 WPB Material for Carbon Steel Piping

ASTM A234 WPB is widely used for carbon steel butt-welding fittings in industrial piping. For projects where carbon steel is selected, the material offers a practical combination of strength, weldability and cost efficiency.

For this shipment, the same A234 WPB fittings specification is applied across elbows, tees and reducers. Maintaining a consistent material grade can simplify procurement, material identification and documentation when several fitting configurations are required for the same piping package.

The fittings are also supplied in Schedule 40, allowing the customer to coordinate the fitting dimensions with the corresponding piping specification.

ASME B16.9 Elbows for Different Piping Layouts

Elbows are an important part of this order, with both long-radius and short-radius configurations included.

The 90° long-radius elbows are supplied in 2″, 4″ and 6″ sizes. Compared with a short-radius configuration, a long-radius elbow provides a larger centerline radius for the change in direction.

The order also includes a 6″ 90° short-radius elbow. This type can be selected when the piping layout requires a more compact turning configuration.

A 6″ 45° long-radius elbow is included as well, providing a smaller directional change than a 90° elbow.

These ASME B16.9 fittings are designed as butt-welding components, making accurate end preparation, dimensions and geometry important for installation and welding.

Equal and Reducing Tees

The tee section of the order includes both equal tees and a reducing tee.

Equal tees are supplied in 2″, 4″ and 6″ sizes. They provide a branch connection where the branch and run are based on the same nominal pipe size.

The 6″ × 4″ reducing tee provides a smaller branch connection from a larger main run. This configuration can be useful when the branch line requires a smaller diameter than the main pipeline.

For a multi-item project, using the same A234 WPB material and Schedule 40 specification across the tee range helps maintain consistency in material control and purchasing documentation.

Concentric Reducers for Diameter Transitions

Three concentric reducer sizes are included in the shipment:

• 2″ × 1-1/2″ Schedule 40
• 2-1/2″ × 2″ Schedule 40
• 6″ × 4″ Schedule 40

A concentric reducer changes the nominal pipe diameter while maintaining a common centerline. Accurate dimensions are particularly important when reducers are installed between pipes or other butt-welding fittings.

For procurement, the reducer size, wall thickness and material grade should be checked against the connected piping before production. This reduces the risk of dimensional mismatches during installation.

Sandblasting and Magnetic Particle Testing

In addition to the product and material requirements, the customer specified sandblasting and magnetic particle testing.

Sandblasting is used for surface preparation, helping remove scale and surface contaminants before final inspection or subsequent handling.

Magnetic particle testing is a non-destructive examination method for detecting relevant surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. Since A234 WPB is a carbon steel material, this inspection method is suitable for the supplied fittings.

For this order, the combination of surface preparation and magnetic particle testing provides an additional level of inspection beyond dimensional and visual checks.
