Energy vessel – submarine oil and gas pipeline

People have begun to search oil resources in shallow seas since 1950s.With the development of mining technology,the mining is no longer limited to shallow seas and the depth of mining is getting deeper and deeper.But there is always a question here:how do those deep sea energy reach the land for us to use?Luckily we have a helper called energy vessels-submarine oil and gas pipelines.

As we all know,most of oil and gas transportation on land realized though pipelines,and the seabed is no exception.However,due to the difference in operating environment,in order to design a safe and reliable submarine pipeline,the following data need to be referred to:

(1)Transmission fluid:including oil and gas category,flow rate,composition,density,viscosity,dew point,temperature,pressure,specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity.

(2)Engineering geology:including seabed soil types and mechanical properties, vertical and horizontal friction properties of the seabed, structural composition of the surface soil of the seabed, seabed topography, profile of submarine pipeline paths, and seismic intensity.

(3)Oceanographic data: including bathymetry, currents, waves, tides, ice, water temperature, seawater salinity, distribution of animals and plants in the sea area, and seawater visibility.

(4)Meteorological data: including wind direction and speed, temperature, air pressure and visibility.

(5)Other information:including charts of the sea area, submarine cables or pipelines to be crossed, underwater obstacles, waterways, fishing areas and relevant government regulations.

The pipeline needs to have better corrosion resistance when it is soaked in the sea water for a long time,because there are large amount of impurities in it.Special corrosion resistance treatment is usually required.For example,adding cathodic protection on the basics of coating;using corrosion inhibitor to add corrosion allowance;using corrosion-resistant pipe or lining;keeping the conveying medium anhydrous,etc.These special treatments are not only for pipe materials but also require stricter quality control and higher requirements for various accessories.
