What are the differences between forged flange and cast flange?

The cast flange has the advantages of accurate blank shape and size, small processing capacity and low cost, but it has casting defects (porosity, cracks and inclusions); the streamline of internal structure of casting is poor (even worse if it is a cutting part).

Forged flange generally has lower carbon content than cast flange and is not easy to rust. The forging streamline is good, the structure is relatively dense, and the mechanical properties are better than that of casting flange; if the forging process is improper, the grain size or uneven, hardening and cracking will occur, and the forging cost is higher than that of casting flange.

Forgings can withstand higher shear and tensile forces than castings.

The advantage of casting is that it can produce complex shape and low cost; the advantage of forging is that the internal structure is uniform, and there are no harmful defects such as air hole and inclusion in the casting;
