CNOOC increased its holdings in the world’s largest deep-water oil field by US $1.9 billion

On December 1, CNOOC announced that it would purchase 5% of the rights and interests of B ú zios, the world’s largest deep-water oil field, for about 1.9 billion US dollars. This was another large-scale increase in CNOOC’s shareholding after winning the bid for 5% of the rights and interests of the oil field in 2019, which made it the largest partner of Petrobras, the oil field operator, with 10% of the rights and interests.

The Buzios project was put into operation in April 2018. It is the largest packaged oil field in Brazil and the largest deep-sea oil field in the world. The average operating water depth is more than 2000 meters. It is developed using the traditional FPSO+underwater production system model. At present, the daily output of crude oil is about 600000 barrels. On November 6, 2019, the consortium consisting of CNOOC, PetroChina and Petrobras won the bid in the block bidding held by the Brazilian National Petroleum Administration (ANP).
