Difference between ERW and EFW steel pipes

ERW steel pipe is the abbreviation of resistance welding.

The welding methods of ERW pipe and submerged arc welded pipe are obviously different. Pressure welding without filler metal is adopted. The skin effect and proximity effect of high frequency current are applied to the edge of instantaneous heating plate.

At the welding temperature, the welding seam of forging structure is extruded by extrusion roller. In order to improve the microstructure of the welding zone, heat treatment should be carried out on the welding line or off-line. The weld of high quality ERW pipe can reach the same toughness level as the base metal, which can not be achieved by submerged arc welding process.

EFW steel pipe is the abbreviation of electric fusion welding.

Submerged arc welding (SAW) – electric welding (EFW) is a process in which the metal is heated by one or more consumable electrodes and workpieces to heat the metal, and then the arc is used to make the metal and fill the metal.

The material is completely melted and no pressure is required. Part of the filler metal comes from the electrode. Gas fusion welding (GMAW) an electric fusion welding (EFW), similar to submerged arc welding, but with better protection from inert gases.
