The difference between nipple and reducer

When selecting reducer, the port size shall be indicated, and NPT or R shall be indicated for taper pipe thread. There are three kinds of big end and small end of the special-shaped short joint: Plain,Bevel,Thread. Its wall thickness is generally SCH80 (3000LB) and SCH160 (6000LB), and the ports at both ends can be consistent or inconsistent, which should be based on the requirements of the site or design. Difference between nipple and reducer:

1.Diameter range: the diameter range of reducer is relatively wide, and the current standard range is DN15-DN3400 (1 / 2 “~ 136”).And the specification range of nipple is: DN6-DN300 (1 / 4 “- 12”) is generally the maximum DN100.

2.Raw material: seamless steel pipe or steel plate is selected for reducer, seamless product is steel pipe and seamed product is steel plate. The nipple is made of round steel or billet.

3.Production process: Reducer production process: seamless products are hot pressed or cold pressed (cold pressing requires heat treatment), and seamed products are hot rolled. The production process of nipple is forging process.

4.Port type: reducer is basically beveled end with few flat ends (although flat end can be used for stainless steel or carbon steel products with thickness less than what is allowed in the standard). There are more port types of nipple, including plain end,bevel end and taper pipe external thread end.
