Chinese shipyards obtain orders for large LNG carriers

China Merchants Group recently announced that China Merchants Industry and European ship owners have recently signed a contract for the construction of 4+2+2 180000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas carriers by means of “cloud signing”. These LNG carriers will be built in Haimen Base of China Merchants Industry, and the first ship is expected to be delivered in early 2026.

China Merchants Industry has the largest number of refitted large LNG carriers in China. In 2019, Haimen Base successfully built and delivered the world’s first LNT A-box 45000 m3 LNG carrier and accumulated certain design capabilities and construction experience. In recent years, China Merchants Industry has continued to accumulate LNG special technology, build production management teams, develop supply chains, and integrate internal resources, which has initially formed the design and construction capacity of large LNG carriers.
