Haihao Group celebrates a milestone in deepwater engineering

At Haihao Group, our commitment to the marine pipeline industry is unwavering, and we are dedicated to bringing you the latest news from the world of offshore projects. Today, we’re excited to share a significant achievement in China’s deepwater engineering sector.

China’s Largest Subsea Pipeline Terminal Successfully Installed

We are thrilled to announce the successful installation of China’s largest domestically designed and constructed subsea pipeline terminal in the waters of LingShui, Hainan. This accomplishment marks a groundbreaking advancement in China’s deepwater engineering capabilities and holds immense significance in enhancing the nation’s marine equipment manufacturing capacity while ensuring national energy security.

Mr. Xu Huakui, Deputy Project Manager of the “DeepSea One” Phase II project by CNOOC, provided insights into this remarkable feat. The subsea pipeline terminal installed is a crucial component of the “DeepSea One” Phase II project, specifically designed for the 20-inch long-distance pipeline. This terminal plays a vital role in connecting the pipeline with other subsea production facilities. It features a stainless steel lining and composite material, with a diameter of 508 millimeters and a wall thickness of 37.9 millimeters. Impressively, it weighs 79 tons, setting new records in China for subsea pipeline terminals in terms of diameter, wall thickness, and weight.

The precision required for this installation was exceptionally high, as it involved placing the subsea pipeline terminal, equivalent in weight to 80 small cars, into the depths of the sea, nearly a kilometer below the surface. The challenges were compounded by the need to achieve a bow direction deviation (the projection of a vessel’s longitudinal axis within the horizontal plane) of no more than 1.5 degrees and a horizontal deviation of no more than 2.5 degrees while working in turbulent seas.

To address these challenges, CNOOC developed five new processes, including “Integrated Side Installation of Subsea Pipeline Terminals” and “High-Precision Positioning System for Underwater Monitoring.” They meticulously planned the installation process through desktop simulations, rehearsal simulations, and onshore installation tests. These efforts resulted in a significantly improved installation efficiency and operational safety. Remarkably, the subsea pipeline terminal was successfully placed on the seabed in less than three hours, meeting all technical requirements.

The “DeepSea One” Phase II project by CNOOC is a natural gas discovery with geological reserves of 50 billion cubic meters. It pioneers an oil and gas development model that combines “Underwater Production Systems” with “Shallow Water Pipeline Supports” and “Deepwater Semi-Submersible Platforms with Remote Control Systems.” Once operational, it is set to boost the peak annual production of the “DeepSea One” gas field from 3 billion cubic meters to 4.5 billion cubic meters.

At Haihao Group, we are proud to be a part of projects that are shaping the future of deepwater engineering and are dedicated to providing the highest quality pipe fittings to support these endeavors. As a reserve supplier of CNOOC, our flanges, elbows, tees and other pipe fittings are widely used in domestic and foreign submarine pipelines, FPSO, LNG and other marine-related pipeline engineering projects. If your project requires classification society Certified pipe fittings products, please feel free to contact us.
